Improve the Texture & Appearance of Your Skin with Laser Skin Treatments

If you are like most people, you probably have a few scars, wrinkles, dark spots, or other blemishes on your skin that you would rather not have.  There are many different treatment options but few produce the kind of lasting results that laser skin resurfacing can.  Mayo Clinic provides a helpful explanation of what exactly laser skin resurfacing is, “Laser resurfacing is a skin resurfacing procedure that uses a laser to improve the appearance of your skin or treat minor facial flaws by removing layers of skin. Laser resurfacing can be done with:

  • Ablative laser. This is a wounding laser, which removes thin layers of skin. Types of ablative treatments include the carbon dioxide (CO2) laser and the erbium laser.
  • Nonablative laser. This is a nonwounding laser, which stimulates collagen growth and tightens underlying skin. This includes many types of lasers as well as intense pulsed light (IPL) devices.

Another type of laser resurfacing, fractional photothermolysis (Fraxel), is available in ablative and nonablative forms. Although nonablative laser resurfacing is less invasive and requires less recovery time, it’s less effective than is ablative laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing can decrease the appearance of facial fine lines. Laser resurfacing can also treat loss of skin tone and improve your complexion if you have scars or sun damage.”

Laser skin resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure that is safe, effective and incredibly convenient because it has little-to-no downtime after treatment.  Not only will the appearance of scars, spots and other blemishes be decreased, but your skin will look more youthful and smooth because wrinkles will be reduced.  The laser helps remove damaged, aged skin layers to uncover fresh and more youthful layers of skin.  Many people are good candidates for laser skin resurfacing.  Those that have fine lines or wrinkles in common locations such as around eyes, mouth or on their forehead can benefit from laser resurfacing.  Further, if you have acne scars or dark spots on your skin, laser resurfacing can help improve pigment and provide a more even skin tone.  Before undergoing any cosmetic procedure, it is important to consult your physician to determine if it is right for your individual health and skin.  At DC Ranch Family Medicine, we can counsel you on the best treatments to improve the look and feel of your skin.  And, if you are a candidate for laser skin resurfacing, we are experienced in providing safe and effective laser skin resurfacing to our patients.
