Reduce the Appearance of Lines on Your Face with Botox and Dysport

We all wish we could slow down the ticking clock of aging on our faces but, alas, we cannot.  Well, we may not be able to stop time but fortunately there are ways to slow things down in other ways!  When it comes to a fast, effective and relatively easy way to reduce fine lines and wrinkles on your face there are two primary options – fillers or Botox.  Dysport and Botox are essentially the same thing – they are nearomodulators, but they have a few differences that set them apart.

Botox to Reduce the Appearance of Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Botox is an injectable that inhibits the nerves that signal particular muscles and relaxes the muscles in the face.  By relaxing the muscles it stops them from contracting and causing the folding in the skin and thus wrinkles are less apparent, It also helps slow down the deepening and progression of wrinkle development so many choose to use it routinely, even if wrinkles are only minimal, as a preventive measure against worsening fine lines.

Dysport to Reduce the Appearance of Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Dysport is also an injectable that relaxes the muscles so that they cannot contract and wrinkle the skin.  Dysport is a smaller molecule than Botox and is thus dosed differently than Botox.  Additionally, patients generally see greater diffusion with Dysport which means that it spreads to a slightly larger treatment area.  While this may sound appealing and is for many, it also means that Dysport can be more difficult to use in the treatment of smaller areas.

Botox vs. Dysport – Who Wins?

Whether Dysport or Botox are better is a highly disputed debate.  There has not been much clinical research that compares the two and the clinical research that has been conducted has been controversial because it is difficult to compare the two due to the difference in their molecular size.  Live Science shared some information regarding a research study that compared Dysport with Botox, “Participants had one side of their face injected with Dysport and the other with Botox…Dysport proved superior at reducing signs of crow’s feet wrinkles when participants contracted their facial muscles as much as they could…And it’s not known whether Dysport will have an advantage when used on other parts of the face, the researchers say…The researchers used three times as much Dysport as they did Botox said Dr. Gary Monheit an associate clinical professor of dermatology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, who was not involved in the work…Since either of the products will have an increased efficacy if the dosage is increased, the researchers, whether they intended to or not, may have “stacked the deck” in favor of Dysport, Monheit said.”  Needless to say, the results have been controversial but one thing remains true through it all – both Dysport and Botox are effective treatments against the signs off aging including wrinkles and fine lines on the face.
